What is this unit all about?

 

Opera Buffa and Seria

Focus

Develop an understanding of opera through listening, composing and performing.  Pupils will participate in group performances as well composing their own operatic piece.  A recording of work should be presented at the end of the unit.

You will learn to

Identify opera seria and buffa

Develop aural awareness

Respond to and evaluate different operatic styles in popular and traditional performances

Show an understanding of libretto in particular works

Produce a class performance and compositions

Add a rhythm part to fit words of text

Plan and rehearse performances for recording

You will learn about

Opera seria and buffa

Aria and recitative

Libretto

Different performances of operatic works and identify the emotions displayed

Different composers of opera from different historical periods.

 

Your work will show

Knowledge of the two operatic styles studies

Knowledge of composers of opera

Understanding and awareness of social, cultural and historical influences

Good listening skills

The ability to work well on your own and with others in performance work

The ability to compose own recitative and aria form given text

The ability to fit part with others in class performance

Your finished work will include

A written record of listening tasks

Well researched and written homework in your own words

A project 

A recording of the class performance
