What is this unit all about?



Pulse and Rhythm

Focus

Within this unit we will develop our awareness of rhythm and pulse and learn about simple time signatures.

You will learn to

Maintain a steady pulse

Perform rhythmic pattern at different tempos

Read rhythmic notation and play some rhythmic music

Play a variety of percussion instruments

Compose your own rhythm pieces

Use time signatures and notation

You will learn about

Rhythm, pulse and beat

Notation - minims, crotchets, quavers and rests

Simple Time signatures

Bar lines

Staves

How to notate rhythms

Your work will show

Confident performances in rhythm work

The ability to work in small groups and fit own part with others

Creative and adventurous composition ideas

Knowledge and Understanding of theory work and simple time

Ability to notate simple rhythmic patterns and read rhythm notation

Your finished work will include

A written log of rhythmic pieces listened to

Completed rhythm grids

Notated rhythms using the correct beats, time signatures and barring

Written tasks and finished theory booklets
