Focus

Within this unit we will develop awareness for melodic phrases and recognise how melodies are made up.  We will learn new terms like structure, repetition and Question & Answer.

You will learn to

Perform a melodic phrase Recognise repetition in melodies Improvise your own melodic phrase using given notes and structure Create composition in a group using AABA structure and repetition Comment on each others' work Compose contrasting sections Record your work

Your work will show

Confident performances in melodic work The ability to work in small groups and fit own part with others Creative and adventurous improvising ideas Awareness of musical features within listening works Ability to notate simple melodic patterns showing repetition and/or contrasting sections Knowledge of recording and improving your own work

Your finished work will include

	A written log of rhythmic pieces listened to Annotated composition of and 8 bar melodic unit Recorded compositions of group improvisations/ compositions
