What is this unit all about?


Major and Minor

Focus

Within this unit we will develop our understanding of major and minor scales and be able to identify them aurally.  We will develop our knowledge of tones and semitones and the construction of scales.

You learn to

Aurally identify major and minor scales

Work out scale patterns using tones and semitones

Perform and compose using the D major and minor scale

Score read 

Respond to and evaluate different music

You will learn about

Major and minor scales

Tones and semitones

Different musical styles and genres, in particular opera

Contrasts in music

 

Your work will show

Good understanding of basic music theory and the construction of scales

Aural awareness of major and minor scales

An understanding of opera and knowledge of some plots and famous composers

Good performance skills and the ability to fit your parts with others

Compositional skills using major and minor keys - constructed individually

Your finished work will include

A written record of listening tasks

Well researched and written homework in your own words

Information about composers and set pieces

A recorded class/group performance 

A notated composition
