Thomas Morley was one of England's leading Renaissance composers.  He was a pupil of the famous composer William Byrd.  Morley took a degree from the University of Oxford in 1588 and later became organist of St. Paul's Cathedral and musician in the royal chapel.   Morley received the royal-printing license formerly owned by Byrd and the English composer Thomas Tallis.

Morley wrote and edited madrigals, lute songs, and instrumental ensemble music.  Morley played a crucial role in the establishment of the Madrigal.
