What is a Fanfare?

A fanfare is a flourish or call made on trumpet to introduce an important person or event.  A fanfare is usually made up of the notes of a simple chord.

Fanfares were originally used to send messages in battle, hunts and court ceremonies.

A 20th-century example is the "Fanfare for the Common Man," by the American composer Aaron Copland

What is a Requiem?

A Requiem is a setting of Latin text of the Mass for the Dead, which begins with the word requiem, meaning rest.

There is a traditional plainsong setting of the Requiem Mass; also settings by many composers, including Palestrina, Lassus, Victoria, Mozart, Berlioz, Verdi, Faure, and Benjamin Britten.
