Chinese Musician: LIU Tian-hua

LIU Tian-hua (1895-1937)

LIU Tian-hua was born in Jiangyin, Jiangsu Province in 1985. Growing up from a poor family, he stopped his study right after graduating from the high school in 1911 and then started work as a musician.  After working for a while he went back to his old High School to become a teacher.  As well as teaching he started to compose his own music.

LIU Tian-hua is the first Chinese musician who uses modern scoring methods to transcribe Chinese folk music pieces. Having a deep understanding on various techniques of the Chinese traditional music, he had used these Chinese techniques in his compositions combining with those from western music. Because of so, his music pieces are very well received by both Chinese musicians and audience.

He was the most outstanding Chinese musician during 1910's and 1930's.
